Friendship is the greatest gift of all

At this time of year moreso than any other, it seems that every commercial on television or advertisement in the newspaper exhorts us to run out and spend (a lot of) money on gifts for others to show how much we care. The corollary, of course, is that, if the gifts aren’t big enough or expensive enough, then apparently it says that we don’t care.

Perhaps it is my age or a shift in focus, but to me the gift of time spent together is the greatest gift of all. It doesn’t have to be a long time – sometimes just a short visit or a shared cup of tea is enough. But having someone take the time to visit and share a tidbit of the day together. For those friends and family members who are too far away to visit in person, even a short phone call once in a while, for no good reason other than to maintain a connection, is a wonderful gift too.

So, if you are struggling with your gift list and dwindling resources, maybe think about another way to give. Give the gift of yourself and your time and make someone else’s day!

  1. Oh Ceci…I’ve just posted on the same thing. And you are one of those rare individuals who truly gives of your time. I truly appreciated the time you spent with me in Sussex, and your kind comments during the past couple of weeks. You have the heart and soul of an angel and I feel blessed to have you as a friend. xoxo
